Fumigation & Safety
To ensure our saunas meet international quarantine and transport requirements, we must use methyl bromide for fumigation. However, instead of relying solely on gas, we also apply heat treatment, which allows us to reduce the amount of methyl bromide used. After treatment, International safety guidelines recommend 4 hours of ventilation to remove traces of methyl bromide. At Forge, we go far beyond that, using large industrial fans to air out the wood for 24 hours. This extended process ensures maximum safety and gives us confidence that all traces of gas have been removed. Methyl bromide is a volatile gas that dissipates quickly. After our extended ventilation and additional passive aeration, any residual levels become negligible and continue to fade over time. By the time your sauna reaches your home, it is completely safe, with no traces of gas remaining.
